Ricky Juliansyah, Jakarta – A total of 135 students from Baitul Qur'an Islamic Boarding School, or pesantren, in Tugu Sub-district, Cimanggis District, Depok, suffered from food poisoning on Monday, September 1, 2025. They have been taken to the hospital and public health centers (puskesmas) to receive treatment.

The head of the Health Office of Depok City, Mary Liziawati, confirmed this. "They have been receiving treatments at the hospital and public health centers," Mary said when asked for confirmation on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.

The Health Office is currently investigating the cause of the students' food poisoning. Mary ensured that the students did not consume the state-sanctioned free nutritious meals. "The food was cooked in pesantren's kitchen, which is prepared daily for the students," Mary stated.

Meanwhile, the Public Relations of Bhayangkara Brimob Hospital said 57 students were rushed to the hospital on Monday, suffering from fever, dizziness, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Out of this number, 31 students needed inpatient care, while the other 26 received outpatient treatment. "The symptoms experienced are strongly suspected to be related to the consumption of certain foods," the public relations of the hospital wrote in a statement.

On Tuesday, September 2, an additional nine students experienced similar symptoms and had to be admitted for inpatient care.

As of Wednesday, September 3, a total of 72 students had been treated at Bhayangkara Brimob Hospital, with 42 of them receiving inpatient care and 30 receiving outpatient treatment.

"A total of 10 inpatients have been discharged, leaving 32 people still being treated at Bhayangkara Brimob Hospital," they explained.

Bhayangkara Brimob Hospital has coordinated with the Tugu Public Health Center and the Depok City Health Department regarding the incident and has submitted the patients' vomit samples to the health department through Tugu public health center officers.

"To date, the case is still being monitored and evaluated by healthcare workers. The initial suspicion points to food poisoning, but further examination is needed to ascertain theroot cause," the hospital said.
