Hendrik Yaputra, Jakarta – Indonesian government will provide financial assistance of Rp15 million for the families of deceased victims and Rp5 million for seriously injured victims of recent demonstrations, according to Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf

The aid will be distributed through the adaptive social assistance (bansos) program.

"Through adaptive social assistance, Rp15 million for the deceased and Rp5 million for the seriously injured," said Gus Ipul, Saifullah's nickname, at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Thursday, September 4, 2025.

Adaptive bansos is designed to assist victims of both natural and non-natural disasters. Gus Ipul confirmed that victims of demonstrations are eligible for the program.

Beyond financial aid, the government will also provide recovery support, social rehabilitation, and empowerment programs for the victims. According to the Ministry of Social Affairs, there have been seven fatalities and nine serious injuries linked to the demonstrations so far.

The Secretary General of Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU) added that disbursement of the social assistance is already underway. Financial aid for deceased victims will be given to their heirs, while aid for seriously injured individuals will be provided directly.

The demonstrations, which began on August 25, 2025, have spread across Jakarta and other regions, driven by public demands to cancel increases in House of Representatives allowances, seen as misaligned with the nation's economic difficulties.

The protests intensified after a Brimob tactical vehicle ran over online motorcycle taxi driver Affan Kurniawan on Thursday, August 28, 2025. Tempo's records indicate that as of early September, 10 people have died in the demonstrations nationwide.

Looting of parliament members' houses and Finance Minister Sri Mulyani's residence, as well as vandalism of public facilities, has also been reported.
