Intan Setiawanty, Jakarta – The Student Executive Board (BEM) from Muhammadiyah University of Tangerang (UMT) held a protest in front of the Attorney General's Office in South Jakarta on Monday, July 20, 2026. They demanded strict law enforcement, transparency, and freedom from intervention in eradicating corruption. Apart from UMT students, several participants also wore jackets from Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University (UIN) Jakarta.
In the rally titled "Indonesia Corruption Emergency Movement Part II," the masses presented four demands. They urged the authorities to combat corruption without compromise, realize social, legal, and economic justice, uphold independent and professional legal supremacy, and promote clean and integral government governance.
According to Tempo's on-site observations, the crowd criticized the police officers guarding the rally location several times. "You're not gaining anything by defending corruptors, police! Why do the police protect corruptors?" shouted an orator from the top of a command vehicle.
The orator also mentioned the name of former Deputy Attorney General of Special Crimes (Jampidsus), Febrie Adriansyah, in his speech. "Police and military, why are you protecting corruptors? There's no benefit in protecting Febrie," he said.
Towards the end of the rally, some protesters banged on the gates of the Jampidsus Building while continuing to voice their demands. The masses also shouted, "The Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia is not a sacred price, but it will soon die," and "Re-volu-tion!" repeatedly.
The protest took place under police security. The situation previously heated up when the masses tried to approach the gates of the Attorney General's Office. However, the authorities prevented them from entering the complex, thus avoiding physical clashes.
Tempo's observation showed that Sabhara and Mobile Brigade (Brimob) personnel were guarding the rally location to ensure the protest ran smoothly.
