Hanin Marwah, Jakarta – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has nominated the Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), Police Commissioner General Suyudi Ario Seto, as the candidate for Chief of the Indonesian National Police. Suyudi is undergoing a fit-and-proper test at the House of Representatives (DPR) today, Thursday, October 1, 2026.
"In accordance with the meeting held this morning, October 1, by the House Consultative Body, Commission III of the House has been tasked with conducting the fit-and-proper test for Police Commissioner General Suyudi, the nominee for National Police Chief," said Habiburokhman, Chairman of the House Commission on Legal Affairs, during a meeting at the House complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday, October 1, 2026.
He stated that his commission had received the Presidential Letter regarding the dismissal of the incumbent National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit. "This morning, we received a letter from President Prabowo – Letter Number R57/Pres/09/2026 dated September 30, 2026 – concerning the proposal to dismiss the current National Police Chief and appoint a new one," he said. Habiburokhman opened the fit-and-proper test session for Suyudi today at approximately 09:10 WIB (Western Indonesian Time).
Profile of Suyudi Ario Seto
Police Commissioner General Suyudi Ario Seto is a high-ranking officer of the Indonesian National Police who currently serves as the Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN). Born in Pandeglang, Banten, on July 14, 1973, he began his police career after graduating from the Police Academy (Akpol) in 1994. He completed his studies at the College of Police Science (PTIK) in 2003 and the National Police Staff and Leadership School (Sespimti Polri) in 2018.
Throughout his service with the National Police (Polri), Suyudi honed his expertise in the fields of criminal investigation and detective work. His operational career spanned various strategic positions, ranging from Head of the Mobile Detective Unit (Kanit Resmob) at the Jakarta Metro Police to Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit (Kasat Reskrim) at the South Jakarta, Tangerang City, and West Jakarta Resort Police levels. Additionally, he led the Violent Crimes Unit (Jatanras) at the Jakarta Metro Police and served as Head of the Mobile Detective Unit at the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim Polri).
His leadership track record at the territorial level has also been impressive. He began his regional leadership roles as the Sector Police Chief (Kapolsek) of Pasar Minggu and Tanah Abang, eventually being entrusted to lead several strategic Resort Police (Polres) units as the Chief of Majalengka, Bogor, and Central Jakarta Metro Resort Police.
His career continued to ascend to the regional police leadership level when he was appointed Deputy Chief of the Jakarta Metro Police (Wakapolda) in 2023. A year later, in 2024, he officially assumed the role of Chief of the Banten Regional Police (Kapolda).
President Prabowo Subianto subsequently appointed him as the Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) on August 25, 2025, at the State Palace in Central Jakarta. The appointment was based on Presidential Decree Number 118 TPA of 2025 regarding the dismissal and appointment of officials to Senior Executive Positions within the BNN.
