Joao da Cruz Cardoso – The economic impact of coronavirus has been made even more severe in oil-producing countries due to the consequences of Covid-19 itself and a collapse in oil prices. Crude has fallen below US$20 per barrel as demand for oil has plummeted. This dual shock has made it harder for oil producing countries to fight the virus.

Dili – The number of COVID-19 cases is increasing in East Timor. Based on information from the Integrated Management Crisis Centre (Sentru Integradu Jestaun Krize – SIJK) there are two new confirmed cases, bringing the total to four.

The infected person had travelled from Indonesia's West Timor region, Integrated Crisis Management Center spokesman, Sergio Lobo, told a news conference.

Dili – The threat posed by the coronavirus (Covid-19) has forced the Catholic Church in Timor-Leste to cancel mass during Easter in the whole country. The decision was made during the Timorese Episcopal Conference (Konferensia Episkopal Timorense – CET) where the papal verdict regarding the Covid-19 crisis was confirmed.

Australia is supporting Timor-Leste to be prepared in case there is an outbreak of COVID-19. The neighbouring country has provided personal protective equipment and medical supplies to protect healthcare workers.

Patrick O'Connor – East Timor recorded its first confirmed COVID-19 virus case on Saturday. The south-east Asian state is among the most impoverished in the world, with only minimal healthcare facilities. If the global pandemic sweeps through the country, there could be mass casualties.

Dili – East Timor reported its first case of coronavirus, its Ministry of Health said on Saturday, adding that the case was from someone who had just returned from abroad.

The ministry said the patient posed little risk to the public, as he immediately consulted with doctors after showing symptoms of the coronavirus.
