M. Raihan Muzzaki, Jakarta – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is investigating the alleged bribery in Indonesia's high-speed train project or Whoosh after receiving several pieces of information.

"So, every case handling at the KPK can stem from public complaints or from a case building carried out by the KPK," said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo at the Red and White Building of the KPK in South Jakarta on Monday, October 27, 2025.

Budi explained that the case building is based on various data obtained by the KPK from various institutions in Indonesia. "It could be from Law Enforcement Agencies (APH), or even from financial institutions such as the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK), the Financial Services Authority (OJK), and so on," said Budi.

The investigation into the alleged corruption in the high-speed train project has already begun by the KPK since early 2025. However, the KPK is not yet willing to disclose the core corruption issues in the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train project.

Budi requested that individuals with information regarding this issue promptly relay it to the KPK. Budi stated that the information would enrich the investigators in handling the alleged corruption in the high-speed train project. "In the investigation process, of course, the team continues to search for necessary information and testimonies to assist in uncovering this case," said Budi.

The Acting Deputy of Enforcement and Execution of the KPK, Asep Guntur Rahayu, confirmed that the investigation into the alleged corruption in the high-speed train project has entered the investigation stage. However, Asep declined to provide more detailed information on the issue being investigated concerning the alleged corruption in the high-speed train project. "We are still delving into the modus operandi," Asep said when confirmed by Tempo on Monday.

Previously, the former Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs (Menkopolhukam) Mahfud MD through the account X @mohmahfudmd on October 18, 2025, stated that he was asked to report this case to the KPK. He mentioned that the corruption issue in the high-speed train involved alleged mark-up.

"In criminal law, if there is information about alleged criminal events, law enforcement should directly investigate, not request a report," Mahfud MD said.

He requested the KPK to promptly summon him to explain the matter concerning the alleged corruption in the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train. However, Mahfud MD asked to be summoned solely for questioning by the anti-corruption agency investigators.
